Returning to Brig, where we left off in October 2020, we decided to cycle through the heavily industrialised part of the Rhone valley downstream from Brig, and so loaded our bicycles onto the train to Brig. There we first collected the pilgrim stamp we hadn't got the last time, and then cycled to the Muttergotteskirche auf dem Glisacker (Church of Our Lady) - a famous pilgrimage site in Glis. From there we cycled through industrial areas down to the Rhone, and then struggled along the embankment into a fierce headwind - apparently a feature of the area. We stopped for lunch at Lalden, just in time to visit St. Joseph's church for the minute's silence to commemorate those having died from COVID. From there we cycled on to Raron, a fascinating hillside village with both a medieval hilltop church and an underground modern cavern church. We then sought out a railway station (Turtmann) to load our bikes on the train and make our way back to Bern.)
