An uphill struggle!

This is the day Sue calls ‘steps, steps and more steps’! For both of us it was difficult ( Sue's legs were too short for the spacing of the modern steps) and we advise the use of sticks to help. The views, however, were amazing. Climbing out of Rapperswil, we could see a large building on the hill which, we rightly, assumed was an hotel - only trouble was it was closed, so no breakfast snack! Continuing our climb, we arrived at Etzel and visited the chapel of St. Meinrad. There is a restaurant next to the chapel where we ate lunch (and they have very nice local beer). Arriving near Einsiedeln after a long climb, the view of the spires of the Monastery was exciting. It is the most important place of pilgrimage in Switzerland dedicated to the Vigin Mary. Sue had visited this place several times but hadn’t like the Baroque architecture, but having been in so many churches in this style, she found that it had grown on her and we could appreciate it’s beauty. We stayed for Vespers, which was very special.
