A long but easy day, with
few churches or coffee shops,
but some friendly people.

Rapperswil on the Lake of Zürich

Today was an easier day in some ways but the longest so far. We were able to walk from our apartment to the station to take the train to Steg. From there we began our walk down the valley. We were struck by the lack of any shop (or coffee option) along what is a main road. Climbing away from the road we did find a coffee. There were also almost no churches or chapels but we did find a stamp in Fischintal reformed church. We climbed up above Wald to look down on our apartment, then we turned a corner to a view over the other side of the lake and began a long walk down to Rapperswil. We came across two dogs in a field who wanted to play a game with sticks. Later we came across a retired gentleman who had set up a little place for pilgrims to stop for a drink or snack, so we stopped for a chat. On arriving in Rapperswil we stopped at the church of St. John where vespers had just begun so we stayed. After we met a young man who had walked The Way and he took us to look at the pilgrim’s hostel. It was a very pleasant place with very welcoming people and we also obtained a stamp. We walked down to the lake and then took transport back to Wald.
