An interestingly varied walk,
with a short trip by ship,
a mountain path and a lakeside walk.

The weather first thing was a little doubtful but we left for Brunnen and it turned out to be a very pleasant day. In Brunnen, we parked the car for 5.- for the day. It meant a short walk, but that’s nothing for us now! We stopped for a coffee whilst waiting for the boat that we needed to take for Treib. It was was one of only a few minutes but enjoyable. Then we began to climb. We passed by a wooden house first built in the 14th century. There was a selection of angels, that someone had made, for sale and I bought two- as often in Switzerland, there was a little tin to put the money in. We continued to climb gently but then found ourselves on a ‘mountain way’ marked so with white/red/white paint markings. (I had read about this stretch as had worried that it would be too much for me!) It was very steep and had a sheer drop. In places there was a rope and posts. At the top we found a pasture with goats and a donkey. The views were amazing and totally worth the climb, which, in the end, I found it to be very enjoyable and exhilarating and in no way to be feared. After a snack stop, we began our way down to the lake in Beckenreid. From there we took the boat back to Brunnen. We had stamped our passes in the church where someone had left applesfor pilgrims. Everywhere was quiet; there are not many visitors around. On the boat there were two Asians families of three - they all had their noses in their smartphones apart from one girl who took time to take a photo and I mused about a world where such beauty can be ignored.
