We set off from Basel to try a new way across Switzerland, the Way of the Three Lakes
to join up with our first way from Constance to Geneva.
Our starting point was at Basel Dreispitz railway station, just outside the town and close
to the St. Jakob stadium that we had gone past on our first way from Basel to Bern
(Baslerweg)
From there, we were quickly in park land, avoiding the built up areas of Basel, and offering us views
over the surrounding countryside. The cornfields were ripening, and filled with wild flowers,
and we were amazed at the number of storks in the fields. We passed through the village of Therwil,
with its old-style village centre and cemetery (with a Muslim area), and a church balcony dedicated to
eight women of the early church.
We arrived at Mariastein in time for a quick look around, before getting the bus back.
We will return by bus here to continue our journey next time.
