We took the train from Figeac to the Rocamadour railway station, about 5km pleasant walk on an
old path to the town itself. We arrived at the car parks and tourist souvenir shops first,
before walking down the cliff path the the old town. We stayed in the refuge-le-cantou-notre-dame,
run by a religious community of sisters, which had small but pleasant rooms and a communal kitchen.
We had an evening stroll around the town, empty of tourists, and then the next morning had a guided
tour of the sanctuary, including the votive offerings by sea-farers, and the place where the remains of
Saint Amadour were found perfectly preserved. We Had a relaxing time looking at the upper, middle and lower
towns, and luckily checked out our route for the morning in the evening sunshine,
as the next morning turned out to be foggy!
