THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS!

-->

We returned by postbus to Orb, and went to the town council offices for a stamp for our pilgrim pass. The building had been completely renovated inside, whilst maintaining the existing interior, resulting in a very pleasing mix of old and new. The staff were very helpful, and we received the stamp you can see below. We wandered around the town, discovering the impressive reformed church of Notre-Dame, hidden behind a single ornate door in a wall. From there on to the castle, with its view of the distant mountains.

We decided to do a detour to Montcherand, which turned out to be extremely worthwhile, with its 12th century murals in a 10th century church. This was also a crossing point of the ways of CLuny, Francigena and Compostela. (2163km to Santiago!) From there we headed downhill, briefly joining the path we had taken to Orbe and then on to Agiez, where we sat on a bench and had lunch. Continuing, we passed through woods (where we heard a cuckoo) and across open spaces with wide vistas to Bretonnieres, where the church was open but the restaurant was not.

Romainmôtier nestles in a wooded valley, after crossing some more plains with views of distant hills. We had hoped to find accommodation over a bkers there, but ther bakers was closed by the time we got there, and so we opted for coffee and meringues at the abbey tea shop, and some https://out.ac/Iaqgupmeditation in the 10th century priory church. We ended the day with a peaceful stroll down a stream to Croy, to take the train home.
