THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS!

-->

We set off from Les Fourgs after a hearty breakfast with the bikers who had also stayed overnight, and set off to have a look around Les Fourgs, which was spread out along the main road. One interesting feature was the security fencing around the local school. From there, it was uphill past the Chapel of Tourillot, following the old ways between woods and pastures. The path continued to gain altitude through the wild landscapes of Haut-Doubs to the pass of Jougne (1010 m.), nestling in Jura mountains. On the way down to Jougne, we stopped off for coffee at a modern cross-country ski resort on the outskirts of Les Hôpitaux Vieux, and then on into Les Hopitaux Neufs, which had been modernised, but it seemed that a lot of the small locals hops were going out of business. There were signs displaying how it had been in the old days, for an interesting comparison. From there we walked under the motorway and on to the old town of Jougnes itself, where Archbishop Sigéric stayed in 990, and where the church had a sign indicating it was on the via Francigena. Then it was steeply downhill to the Chapelle of Saint Maurice, and along the edge of the hills, to the Swiss frontier, which unfortunately was unmaned, so we couldn't collect a stamp in our pilgrim passes to commemorate the event. We took a detour along a section of roman road, where the ruts caused by centuries of roman wagon wheels were clearly to be seen. The down into Ballaigues, to wait for a bus to take us to the train station and home.
