BASLERWEG:

Jakobsweg from Meltingen to Beinwil

31st May 2019

A steep uphill walk through woods, then down through pastures, meeting different animals on the way! The abbey in Beinwil has changed hands several times, and is now being renovated by an orthodox community.

Former Benedictine Abbey of Beinwil

We took the train and bus back to Meltingen, and after al look round the church there, we walked steeply uphill through mixed woodland, and then down the other side through some pastureland to the formal Benedictine Abbey of Beinwil. On the way, we met an inquisitve flock of goats, as well as some pigs and puppies! The Abbey had been taken over by an Orthodox community very recently, and we were shown around by newly arrived monk and nun. After the chat with a monk and nun, we waited at the bus stop opposite the old mill for a bus home, wondering as we did why the village symbol is a pair of giant crossed thigh bones.
