We returned to Spiez by train and walked to Amsoldingen.
We hadn’t intended to go the whole way but arriving in Gwatt, we had to make a decision,
and as we had not walked far at that point, decided to continue.
There were some lovely old churches on this stretch and we stopped near Einigen to drink a hot chocolate
and eat vermicelles in a small cozy wooden cafe with quirky decorations.
Einigen church was founded over 1000 years ago which gave us a feeling of following in very old footsteps.
The way continued to Amsoldingen but it was dark by the time we arrived.
Being sure that the basilica there would be closed, we were surprised to find that this was not the case.
(The largest 10th century Ottonian dynasty basilica in the country.)
Finding a light switch we were able to enjoy this wonderful place and spent time in prayer in the crypt
which was a lovely end to our day’s walk.
From there we took the postbus to Thun and then the train home.
