24th September 2019

A healthy breakfast, a walk in the rain, and an excellent dinner.

A wet walk in the woods

On leaving La ferme des bruyères, we began climbing but luckily we had had a really good breakfast including crêpes. As always this week, the jams were home made. They also had chickens, so the eggs were also fresh. It began to rain as we climbed up the hill and we later found refuge in a sort of party-place in the forest. We lost our way going down to Bellegarde and then found our way to a chapel(11c) which was unfortunately shut. We met a Reto-Romansch and a young Austrian called Magdalena. From there we walked on to St. Romaine de Saviour where there was a Carmel Chapel and a meeting of 2 sources at St. Lazare where children were brought for healing. Walking down from the woods, we saw a ‘social centre’ and asked if they had a câfe. The lady said ‘no’ but then offered us a coffee for free. We had really good walking on mostly paths although some were slippery due to the odd shower. The arrival in Assieu was down a steep path with large stones and port of it was asphalted probably due to the fact that rain would cause the path to be very stoney and muddy. We stayed at a gate (accrual à la ferme) which, although the room was a little strange (a curtain and no door) we had a fun evening with the several of the people that we had met over the last few days. We had an amazing meal as _Thierry, the owner was a ‘traiteur' (caterer).
