We took the post bus to Lü, with a good view of the Val de Müstair on the way. Leaving Lü, we set off
up the old pass road, initially a wide road. Further on, after pausing to watch a Marmot family at
play, we started to go steeper uphill until getting to the pass itself.
We shared the way with quite a few cyclists - it seemed a popular cycling route!
On the other side of the pass, we went through an ancient
Arven forest,
unusual in being at such a high altitude. From there is was a pleasant walk down to S-Charl,
a former mining village and summer alpine village, now a tourist resort.
From there, we went down the road, catching a post bus back to Scuol, as the rock and gravel
slides made for difficult going.
