BASLERWEG:

Jakobsweg from Aesch to Meltingen

30th May 2019

An interesting day, uphill to a castle, down past foxes and herons, along past a 1914 army murals followed by pre-historic caves.

View over Basel

We took the train to Aesch, with an interesting church, and then headed through the forest and up the hill to the ruins of Pfeffingen castle, with views back over Basel. We also had a good view looking back at the size of the Rudolf Steiner Goetheaum. From there along a river, and over a hill where we found a field full of herons and foxes! After this we went past a cliff with Swiss army murals dating from 1914, and on up the narrow valley with caves on either side with prehistoric finds dating back 10000, 15000 and even 30000 years to the Neanderthals. Finally, onwards and upwards to the bus stop at Meltingenbrücke.
