Leaving Basel!

We took the train to Basel, and then walked through the town, first the modern part, then more dilapidated parts, to the St Jakob's park football stadium, passing St.Jakob's church and St.Jakob's tavern on the way. From there we walked up the river Birs, passing through Münchenstein and Dornach before ending up at Aesch, and taking the train back to Basel and thence home.Münchenstein has an interesting covered bridge (with a picture of a happily walking monk) and Dornach is famous as the place where Rudolf Steiner died, and the Goetheanum school for spirtual studies, based on his anthroposophical philosophy, and a sculpture in its own right.
