The journey to our starting point was getting longer, necessitating an early start.
We took the train to Einsiedeln and then the postal bus to which stopped just at the foot of our climb,
and a climb it was but not difficult and we were at the top of Haggenegg before we knew it.
We saw an alpine chalet which had a sign saying that it was a shop.
A man called out to greet us from the front door so we went to investigate.
He even had coffee, one of the best yet! There was a choice of goat’s cheese to buy and so Angus
took several to try. There was also goats ice-cream so Angus tried some and it was very good.
Moving on the the very top of Haggenegg we walked into large parked cars and there was an hotel and restaurant,
a stark contrast to the chalet we had just left and it was quite a shock although we did visit the
modern chapel which was on the summit. At 1414m above sea level, Haggenegg is the highest summit on
the Jakobsweg north of the Pyrenees. From there the way down was very steep.
The views were amazing as we walked out of the woods. We arrived in Schwyz and visited the churches there.
Continuing onto Brunnen was not so interesting being on an open plane which held quite a bit of industry
but there were several small chapels which seemed to mark The Way. However, we did visit Ingebold Monastery.
We regretted not having thought about staying there as it seemed such a lovely place and I later heard
from others that it is indeed. By the time we reached the lake we were feeling quite tired but it had
been a very good day.
