We took the train from our base in Bilbao back to Gernika, and followed the signs through old and new
parts to a steep climb through woods. There were spectacular views of the rolling countryside when
the trees thinned, but few villages. Finally we came across an Albergue where the owner provided us
with a coffee before we continued our way. An interesting feature we came across occasionally were boats
sitting by themselves miles from the sea. We also came across yet another closed Albergue, looking as
if it hadn't been used for some time. At one point we missed our turning, and found ourselves
on a quiet road with large, isolated properties looking as if they were owned by people who
valued their seclusion! We managed to get back on the correct way, and after more forest, and muddy slopes,
we headed down a road to a village where we discovered a bus about to set off for Bilboa, so we leapt on to it.
